Digital Transformation

To better position the UW School of Nursing (SoN) for the rapidly evolving digital future, the digital transformation initiative leverages technology, data, and best practices to reimagine and promote innovation in core business and teaching/learning functions so as to enhance, from prospect to alumni, the student experience, boost the School’s business competitiveness, improve operations, and promote a culture of data-driven decision making. This initiative helps drive global productivity for the SoN by supporting faculty, staff, and students anytime and anywhere in the world, allowing for consistent engagement and enabling greater impact. In the larger context, this initiative positions the SoN for greater engagement with nurses throughout the arc of their career from initial education through retirement, supporting continuous education and the implementation of research-based approaches in their clinical practice.

The core goals of the initiative are:

  1. Develop a common data foundation with Salesforce as a single source of data and resources
  2. Improve communication and outreach using Salesforce’s marketing platform to each more prospects, students, nurses and alumni and provide more opportunities for them to engage with SoN in educational and other endeavors.
  3. Enhance core learning experiences
  4. Increase organizational capacity

Some of what’s been accomplished so far include CNE and SAS moving to Salesforce as their relationship management platform, with CNE having a new web storefront that connects with Salesforce and SAS implementing a new admissions and review system that utilizes this common data core. This initiative has also consolidated various marketing lists into a single list that reaches over 40,000 nurses while also creating more engaging marketing content that is helping to increase revenue streams.

Other successes include a faculty institute that focused on promoting student-centered instructional design, curriculum mapping efforts, and enhanced CNE business functions that make it easier for nurses, organizations, and exhibitors to engage with them.

The School is well on its way to achieving its digital transformation goals, and in so doing, fostering collaboration, innovation, and a more seamless engagement with nurses.
